DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist students in making educational, vocational, and personal decisions and plans.
- Assist teachers in solving problems and facilitating learning, as well as communication between students, teachers, and parents.
- Manage programs and projects related to student guidance and academic counseling.
- Interpret and evaluate student test data.
- Evaluate and coordinate sources of computer-aided counseling services, including software and Internet access to college and career counseling resources.
- Evaluate and coordinate existing counseling and career center programs and services, and meet with existing personnel to share ideas and assist with planning and implementation of approved changes.
- Collaborate with current staff to update, edit, and reprint the annual Guidance and Counseling Handbook.
- Assist career center personnel with planning and implementation of a variety of scheduled activities including: the Career Fair, student orientation. junior resume writing, orientation for registration, testing for district proficiencies, CTBS, AP and Golden state, scholarship and aware ceremony, sophomore college planning night, etc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid California credential authorizing pupil personnel services at involved grade levels.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters degree or equivalent advanced study.
- Successful experience in pupil personnel service.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in individual and group counseling.
- Evidence of effective human relations skills.
- Evidence of physical/emotional characteristics compatible with demands of the position.
- Evidence of knowledge of laws and regulations related to child welfare, reporting and referral, confidentiality, etc.
- Capability, interest, and willingness to assume co-curricular assignments consistent with needs of the Guidance Department and the high school activity program.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The selection will be based upon:
- The candidate’s possession of the qualifications and considerations noted above.
- The endorsement of the candidate by previous supervisors, colleagues, etc.
- The endorsement of the candidate by the individuals involved in the selection process.
SALARY AND EMPLOYMENT
Salary will be appropriate step on Certificated High School Counselor Salary Schedule.
