Bio - 2006
Dr. Jeffrey Hubbard
Dr. Jeffrey Hubbard assumed the role of Superintendent of the
Newport-Mesa Unified
School District in July of 2006. This role marks Dr.
Hubbard’s second career Superintendency of his 14-year educational
administrative career. Prior to coming to N-MUSD, he served as Superintendent of
the Beverly Hills Unified School District in Beverly Hills, Ca. for three years.
Dr. Hubbard’s own educational experience includes: California
State University, San Bernardino; University of California, Santa Barbara;
University of Redlands; and the University of Southern California.
Dr. Hubbard has been asked many times since his arrival to N-MUSD
to paraphrase his vision for Newport-Mesa. He shares that much of his visioning
will come from his collective work with the Board, staff, students and families
of Newport-Mesa. He quotes a former professor that “What collectively we believe
in” will craft the District’s vision during his tenure with the District. He
credits former Superintendent Barbot with putting in place the “mortar and
bricks that built a strong and durable foundation” and feels that the District
will continue to mature and thrive as a result. Dr. Hubbard’s two cornerstones
for Newport-Mesa’s future are students focused on learning and teachers focused
on helping students learn. He anticipates spending the first six months on the
job in qualitative and quantitative analyses of where the District is and how
staff and community would like to see it grow.
Dr. Hubbard is an active member of the educational community.
He is a current member of the following organizations: California City
Superintendents Group; the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society; USC Dean’s
Superintendent Advisory Group; Pepperdine University Dean’s Superintendent
Advisory Group; School Employers Association; Association of California School
Administrators; Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development;
California School Boards Association; and former member of the Beverly Hills
Chamber of Commerce and Beverly Hills Rotary Club. He also looks forward to
joining new membership organizations within the Newport Beach and Costa Mesa
communities and growing his ties to the local community he serves.
Dr. Hubbard has three children, two sons and a daughter. His
oldest son Jordan, 23, is an aspiring song-writer and attends Cal State Los
Angeles. His youngest son, Kevin, 18, is studying history and attends Orange
Coast College. His daughter, Lilly, is 5 and just started kindergarten.
He is an avid USC sports fan, U.S. and World History
enthusiast, and enjoys spending time with his family and is an avid reader in
his "spare time.”
Dr. Hubbard quotes many great leaders as mentors that guide
his life and career. He recently shared that one of his most inspirational
figures is Sir Winston Churchill. A portrait of Churchill adorns a wall in Dr.
Hubbard’s office. He is reminded of a quote by Churchill delivered at the Harrow
School in 1941: “Never give in – never, never, never, never, in nothing great or
small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good
sense.”
